Poetic devices are tools/enhancements used to, well, enhance your writing. These specific devices are used for just poems, though. Some examples are: hyperbole, rhyme scheme, extended metaphor, personification, and similes. Poetic devices are things like metaphors, alliteration and repetition. They are devices you use to make the poem flow and be more interesting. They can be used in many ways to affect the poems audience, depending on what the poem's topic is. For example, when you use alliteration to connect one line of a poem to the next, the poem flows more smoothly. Poetic devices can also set the tone of the poem, if it is happy there would be more "silly" things like alliteration to make the audience feel happy. If it's sad then the writer would use serious things like metaphors that compared the poems events to the real world.
